Ovarian apoplexy causes, symptoms, treatment
Ovarian apoplexy is a condition when it suddenly ruptures, accompanied by massive bleeding and acute pain. Most often, pathology is diagnosed in women of reproductive age, but some causes of ovarian apoplexy can provoke pathology in other periods of life.
Clinical picture
The pathology is most often acute, the clinical picture develops rapidly, therefore the symptoms of apoplexy are always pronounced:
- a woman feels a sharp pain in the lower abdomen with a clear localization - if the patient is conscious, she can point to the place of pain;
- spreading pain in the lower back, buttocks, anus, perineum is noted;
- sudden weakness appears (the woman literally falls), blood pressure drops sharply, which causes pronounced paleness of the skin of the face and hands, bluing of the nail plates and lips;
- fainting is possible;
- heart rate increases sharply;
- nausea, often vomiting occurs.
Symptoms of ovarian follicular cyst rupture often mimic symptoms of apoplexy, so additional diagnostics will be required to clarify the diagnosis. Often, doctors are forced to refuse to order a full-fledged examination, because the patient's condition is critical and requires immediate treatment, otherwise a fatal outcome may occur.
If the pathology is in a mild form (it is characterized by low blood loss - no more than 150 ml), then the woman's well-being deteriorates slightly. In this case, the doctor determines the signs of rupture of the ovary on ultrasound - this is a mandatory examination for complaints characteristic of ovarian apoplexy. Pain and temperature after apoplexy may persist.
Medical assistance for ovarian apoplexy
With unexpressed signs, a diagnosis of a mild form of apoplexy is made and conservative treatment is prescribed: hemostatic drugs, cold on the stomach (a heating pad with ice). As soon as the bleeding stops and the patient's condition stabilizes, tonics are prescribed to support the body and speed up recovery. Treatment of the ovary after apoplexy can be quite long and depends on what caused the pathology.
For all other forms of pathology, surgical intervention is performed, and it is urgent - a large blood loss threatens the life of a woman. The operation is performed in such a way as to preserve the ovary - this is especially important for women who plan to give birth. If an ovary with a fallopian (uterine) tube or a part of these organs is removed, the obtained biological material is sent to the laboratory for research. First of all, this is done to detect malignant cells.
Operation for the painful form of ovarian apoplexy is performed urgently.
Recovery period
After surgery, a woman needs time to recover. Doctors monitor the menstrual cycle - menstruation after apoplexy may be disturbed. Hormonal therapy may be prescribed. Within 2 months, it is necessary to follow the recommendations:
- refuse from sports and other physical activities;
- eat wholesome food;
- do not drink alcohol;
- do not have sex;
- do not use sanitary tampons;
- do not visit sauna, bathhouse, do not take hot baths.
The consequence of rupture of the ovary in women can be infertility, therefore, immediately after the operation, it is necessary to undergo an endocrinological examination and be regularly monitored by a gynecologist. This will help to timely detect the beginning of irreversible pathological processes that make conception and bearing of the fetus impossible.
The woman stays in the hospital for no more than 10 days after the operation. Then she is discharged for outpatient treatment.
