In the article, we will tell in detail how standard operations for varicose veins are performed - venectomy and miniphlebectomy. Such an operation is possible only in stationary conditions. The patient stays in the hospital for two to ten days, depending on the qualification and experience of the doctor and the place of operation.
Preparation for surgery
Usually, the operation is performed under spinal anesthesia, when the patient is conscious at the time of the intervention, but his legs are not sensitive. Such anesthesia has certain contraindications and sharp limitations for use in elderly patients and patients with osteochondrosis, as well as, in addition to a fairly significant number of complications and side effects, it immobilizes a person until the next day, since it is impossible to get up after such anesthesia. This is a significant negative point, because after any operation on vessels, the patient must resume his activity as soon as possible in order to prevent postoperative complications. SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) does not allow this.
Peculiarities of classical veneectomy
Classic veneectomy consists in removing all affected veins from separate skin incisions along the entire leg. Therefore, one of its most negative aspects is surgical trauma, that is, pronounced and massive tissue damage due to the need to perform many incisions. Quite a lot of rough manipulations should be done to find and remove the affected veins. This leads to a pronounced and long-lasting pain syndrome, which, of course, depends on the massiveness of the vein damage and persists for five to seven days after the operation. In addition, there is always a significant decrease in physical activity.
Postoperative period
The operated patient cannot fully put weight on the leg for seven to ten days, limps. After such an operation, daily dressings are always required, which are quite painful and unpleasant. It is almost always possible to observe multiple hematomas, pronounced swelling is often noted. The presence of many incisions, on the one hand, causes a high risk of infection, and on the other hand, it requires the prescription of certain medications. The rehabilitation period after veneectomy is from two to three months, during which you will have to adhere to the regime of elastic compression.
One of the significant negative signs of veneectomy is the lack of cosmetic effect from the operation due to a large number of incisions. Most patients feel discomfort in the postoperative period due to the fact that they have to be distracted from work for a long time, it is not possible to lead a normal lifestyle and do usual household chores.
Generous variants of the standard operation
A more gentle operation can be considered more modern. With this intervention, trunks of main subcutaneous veins are removed with the help of special tools - probes (the operation is called stripping), and varicose veins are removed from punctures of the skin with the help of special tools. This operation is called a miniphlebectomy and is more gentle than removing veins from incisions. This intervention can be performed under intravenous anesthesia, however, in accordance with modern requirements, modern drugs should be used, after the use of which there are no pronounced side effects and complications characteristic of standard intravenous anesthesia with the use of narcotic analgesics.
If performed professionally, such anesthesia allows patients to return to active life quite quickly. Such an anesthesiological manual requires certain training and qualification of the personnel of the medical institution.
Regarding the removal of veins with probes, it is necessary to note the need to make incisions, especially inguinal ones. Permanent and pronounced complications of such an intervention: multiple and pronounced hematomas due to detachment during the removal of the trunks of multiple tributaries; damage to lymphatic vessels and, as a result, frequent and persistent swelling; nerve damage, which sharply reduces the quality of life, and sometimes the ability to work. It is also quite common to note the detachment of ""pieces"" of the trunk of the saphenous vein during removal with a probe, which further leads to the development of a relapse of the disease. Therefore, a specialist who performs such an intervention must have good training and considerable professional experience.
Severe technical limitations arise when performing standard operations in the advanced stages of the disease, in the presence of pronounced skin changes, because when incisions are made on the changed skin, they do not heal and lead to the formation of trophic ulcers.
