Treatment of calluses and corns. Modern methods of therapy

Treatment of calluses is not the biggest problem of modern medicine. But corns cause inconvenience, and they just look ugly. Therefore, their competent derivation determines the comfort of a person's life.

Depending on the tissue structure, corns are divided into:

  • dry - normal roughness of the skin without the presence of a cavity;
  • aqueous - the rubbed skin forms a cavity, where there is a colorless watery liquid that does not smell anything;
  • bloody - the same cavity, only with blood content;
  • calluses with a rod are the same dry calluses in which, due to constant irritation, a seal in the thickness of the tissues or a rod has formed in the same place.

Footprints are diagnosed separately. The difference with corns:

  • they are usually smaller in size;
  • "built" from a compacted center around which there is a circular (circular) inflamed skin area;
  • painful even with weak pressure.

Removing corns, like calluses, is not a difficult procedure.

Anatomical and physiological essence of corns

In order to successfully treat corns, you should understand why they occur.

The skin is arranged in such a way that it is not afraid of external irritants (chemical, mechanical, thermal). And thanks to the regular reproduction of cells, it is able to regenerate quickly (old cells are rejected, new ones appear in their place).

But with prolonged mechanical action, friction, pressure, excessive irritation, the skin becomes rough - calluses appear. Most often, they are formed due to permanent friction on the hands and feet. Although calluses are often observed on the elbows, tongue, gums and even in such unusual places as the male penis, labia in women, nipples and areas of skin under the nails.

You can find out more about the unusual places where calluses can form, and what the risks are for the patient, on the pages of our website https://dobrobut.com/. Also on the site you will find other useful information about corns and corns.

Treatment of calluses, basic methods

Roughness (callousness) of the skin can be removed in different ways.

Treatment of calluses depends on their type and severity. In the arsenal of doctors:

  • therapy with the help of medicinal products that dissolve roughness of the skin;
  • anti-callous plasters;
  • surgical removal (excision);
  • the most modern method is the removal of calluses by laser.

Not only surgeons, but also podiatrists - narrow specialists who deal exclusively with feet - are capable of removing calluses with the help of surgical instruments.

Treatment of dry calluses on fingers and toes

If such calluses appeared recently, it is not necessary to cut them out. There is every chance that such osmolality can be removed by applying gels and creams with keratolytic properties - that is, those that prevent changes in skin cells, which causes its roughness.

Some of the most effective ingredients of these ointments and gels:

  • salicylic acid;
  • benzoic acid.

Treatment of dry calluses on the toes (feet) and hands (palm surface of the hands) in comparison with other localizations can be delayed. The reason is that the skin here osmolates more intensively and at a greater depth than in other locations. The removal of dry calluses on the legs and hands for greater efficiency should be preceded by their softening (achieved by simple immersion in liquid).

Treatment of dry calluses with a rod

In this case, the surgical method is more effective, since it is technically impossible to lubricate the hardened rod in the depth of the tissues with keratolytic ointments or gels to soften it.

Treatment of dry calluses with a rod is a small surgical operation with compliance with the principles of asepsis, that is, with treatment of the operating field and doctor's gloves. Local anesthesia is mandatory - especially if the callus is old and it is assumed that the rod is deeply embedded.

Removal of corns is carried out as follows:

  • first the callus itself is cut out;
  • then a neat deep cut is made;
  • through it, the rod is grabbed by the clamp and pulled out.

A callus on a toe with a rod is easier to remove than on a heel, because the length of the rod will not be long, and the cut will be deep.

Treatment of corns between the toes

No particular technical difficulties are observed. But you need to remember some nuances:

  • possibility of relapses, as the fingers constantly rub against each other;
  • during surgical treatment, it is necessary to carefully monitor the wound surface so that it does not close (a condition in which exudate is released from the wound due to the fact that the tissues are in a conditionally closed space between the fingers and are in contact with each other).

Laser removal of corns

It has been applied relatively recently, but has already found its supporters and proven itself. It is based on the short-term action of a laser beam on the callus, the photons of which act keratolytically.

The main advantages compared to the surgical method:

  • there is no risk of damage to small blood vessels;
  • there is no risk of damage to nerve branches.

By "cutting out" the tissues, the laser beam immediately sets them on fire. Due to this, capillary bleeding is not observed.

Contrary to a misconception, the price of laser corn removal is affordable, especially considering its high efficiency.
