Types of angina: effective treatment

Treatment of angina is one of the most urgent tasks of district doctors, pediatricians and infectious disease specialists. Every person has been ill with this disease at least once in their life. The medical term "angina" (a private case of acute tonsillitis) comes from the ancient Greek ango - to strangle, squeeze.

Angina is an acute, inflammatory-allergic, infectious and contagious pathology that occurs with damage to the tonsils (the first protective barrier against infections) of the pharyngeal ring. It is the involvement in the pathological process of the lymphatic tissue, which consists of these formations, that provokes the general difficult condition of the body. A child's sore throat can be especially severe.

The most common types of angina

The cause of the development of most bacterial tonsillitis is a non-specific microorganism - beta-hemolytic streptococcus. It provokes 80% of cases of diseases. The second place is occupied by staphylococcus, its share is 10% of cases of inflammatory pathology of the tonsils.

These two microorganisms cause several main forms of disease:

  1. Catarrhal angina is the most common form of the disease. It is manifested by an increase in temperature at the level of 37-38 degrees, rarely higher. The patient is diagnosed with pain in the throat, redness and swelling of the tonsils, cough. Most often, the catarrhal variant occurs with bacterial tonsillitis. It is important to remember that even a mild course of this disease can cause serious complications.
  2. Lacunar angina – occurs in a more severe form, the body temperature can rise to 39-40 degrees Celsius, there are severe pains in the throat, pronounced intoxication with weakness, headache, nausea is observed. The surface of the tonsils is covered with islands of whitish plaque, which are easily removed with a spatula (the main criterion for distinguishing it from diphtheria).
  3. Follicular tonsillitis – proceeds similarly to lacunar angina, but it is characterized by damage to the tissues of the follicular apparatus of inflamed tonsils. Their surface resembles a "starry sky" - such a picture is created by enlarged follicles and islands of purulent accumulations..
  4. Fibrous tonsillitis is a complicated case of the two previous options with the appearance of a purulent-necrotic plaque on the mucous membrane of the pharynx and oral cavity. In this form, intoxication of the body is expressed quite strongly. Most often we are talking about strep throat. With incorrectly selected tactics of medical measures, it can turn into a phlegmonous variant, which always proceeds in a severe form and most often requires surgical intervention.

Rare types of angina

Finding out the true causes of the development of the disease plays a big role in the process of finding out how to treat angina. Some types of specific microbes and viruses cause an anginal clinic.

These include:

  • diphtheria sore throat - dirty gray films are visible on the tonsils and outside their borders. When trying to remove them, the filmy elements are separated with great difficulty, leaving bloody traces in their place;
  • scarlatinous sore throat, in which tonsil necrosis most often develops against the background of clinical manifestations;
  • typhoid and tularemia angina;
  • angina in blood diseases (agranulocytosis, leukemia, infectious mononucleosis);
  • viral angina - this form most often occurs in young children and is characterized by severe intoxication with a syndrome of damage to the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, abdominal pain, intestinal bloating, defecation disorders);
  • Herpetic angina. Complaints and manifestations of this disease are diverse. The mucous membrane of the tonsils and pharynx at the beginning of the disease becomes bright red, then it is covered with a papular rash. After a few days, the bubbles burst, forming erosions with a characteristic reddish border and a whitish coating.

How to treat sore throat

Cataral, lacunar and follicular tonsillitis are treated at home under the supervision of a therapist. Only the doctor decides how to treat angina. Self-medication can lead to negative consequences.

It is quite enough to treat mild forms of angina without fever with a warm drink containing lemon, rosehip, natural syrups, heated juices. For severe cases, hospitalization is necessary.

Treatment of angina in children requires special care. Sick children need bed rest and separate kitchen and toilet accessories in the first days of illness. The diet should consist of soft, vitaminized food, which will help avoid injury to the tonsils. A dairy-vegetable diet is especially recommended.

Treatment of purulent sore throat of a non-specific nature, medium and severe forms is carried out:

  • Antibiotic therapy. It is prescribed according to individual schemes, after determining the sensitivity of the causative agent within 3-4 days before the appearance of clinical improvement. If there is no such effect, the antibiotic is changed. Antibiotic therapy of angina during pregnancy requires special care.
  • Rinsing antiseptic solutions of furacilin, soda, boric acid, ethacridine. Herbal infusions of chamomile, eucalyptus, and other plants are also used for these purposes.
  • Irrigation of the pharynx and tonsils with antiseptic and pain-relieving sprays ("Kameton").
  • The appointment of antihistamine drugs of the new generation, which remove the allergic component with minimal side effects.
  • Antipyretic and painkillers. Indications for their appointment are body temperature above 38 degrees Celsius and severe sore throat. With lower numbers, these drugs should not be used.
  • Immunotherapy. In almost all cases of sore throat, the patient has a disturbed immune background, which requires medical correction.

Frequent recurrence of tonsillitis is an indication for removal of tonsils - tonsillectomy.
