Symptoms of erosive duodenitis in adults, treatment
Duodenitis is an inflammatory disease of the duodenum. Most often, the pathology is combined with other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Among the main symptoms of erosive duodenitis in adults are pain in the navel area on an empty stomach, nausea, spasm-like pains, a feeling of heaviness in the stomach. With erosions of the mucous membrane of the upper parts of the duodenum, the patient will complain of sour belching, heartburn and nausea, vomiting.
Causes and risk factors:
- irrational nutrition, predominance of sour, fried and spicy food in the diet;
- harmful habits and abuse of coffee;
- chronic stress and fatigue;
- diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
- presence of chronic diseases;
- taking some medicines.
The causes of secondary duodenitis in children are most often gastritis, liver and gall bladder diseases, pancreatitis and diverticulosis. Duodenostasis plays an important role in the development of secondary duodenitis.
What is catarrhal duodenitis
According to the clinic, acute (catarrhal, phlegmonous, ulcerative) and chronic duodenitis are distinguished. The latter can be primary and secondary. Primary develops against the background of improper nutrition, smoking and alcohol abuse. Secondary causes are diseases of the stomach, liver and gall bladder.
Clinical classification:
- chronic acidopeptic bulbitis, which develops against the background of chronic gastritis;
- chronic duodenitis with enteritis;
- duodenitis on the background of insufficient mobility of the DPC;
- local duodenitis.

Pronounced atrophic duodenitis
Atrophic duodenitis is a lesion of the mucous membrane in the upper part of the duodenum, characterized by a disorder of the secretory function and dystrophy of the mucous membrane. The clinical manifestations of pronounced atrophic duodenitis are non-specific and quite often the disease is disguised as other pathologies. The disease is treated on an outpatient basis, except for severe cases. The basis of therapy is the elimination of the cause of inflammation and dietary nutrition. Treatment is provided by a gastroenterologist.
Main symptoms of the disease
In the acute form, the patient complains of general weakness, nausea, vomiting, pronounced pain in the stomach, severe night pains.
Symptoms of chronic duodenitis of the duodenum are more smoothed. Most often, the patient is bothered by:
- heartburn, belching;
- decrease in appetite;
- headache, irritability;
- feeling of distension in the stomach region;
- aching pain.
For duodenitis against the background of intestinal diseases, intestinal manifestations are characteristic - liquid stools, flatulence, pain in the intestines. If the pathology developed as a result of duodenostasis, the patient will complain of severe pain in the right hypochondrium, grumbling in the stomach and bitterness in the mouth.
Duodenitis of the duodenum - diagnosis
After collecting the anamnesis and examining the patient, the doctor will prescribe a number of additional examinations: esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), ultrasound examination of abdominal organs, examination of gastric juice (composition and acidity), co-program, general blood analysis and biochemistry, X-ray and duodenoscopy. If oncology is suspected, a special examination will be prescribed.
After receiving the results, the doctor will tell you how to treat an exacerbation of duodenitis, and prescribe a diet that must be followed for a month. In the future, the diet can be gradually expanded. Food for superficial duodenitis should be gentle on the gastrointestinal tract, but useful for the body.
Treatment of chronic duodenitis
Medical therapy consists of several stages - removal of the inflammatory process, normalization of digestion, restoration of the function of the duodenum.
Drug treatment of chronic duodenitis:
- spasmodics;
- antacid preparations;
- enveloping means;
- drugs to increase motility;
- antibiotics.
Diet menu for acute duodenitis. With duodenitis, the patient is prescribed diet No. 1, which excludes products that irritate the mucous membrane of the duodenum and stomach. During the recovery period, the patient is transferred to diet No. 5 or No. 4.
