Spondylosis of the cervical spine - what is it

Spondylosis is a pathology associated with the growth of bone tissue of the spine. Types and degrees of spondylosis can be different, the course of treatment will depend on this. Therapy is carried out under the supervision of a doctor, because improperly performed medical measures can lead to serious complications.

Symptoms and types of spondylosis

The classification of the disease depends on the location of the pathological process. Spondylosis is distinguished:

  • of the neck;
  • lumbar-sacral;
  • breast.

The causes of spondylosis are still not clear. However, many doctors agree that the disease is a complication of osteochondrosis. Therefore, the first symptom is periodic pain in the location of the pathological focus. At the beginning of the disease, this syndrome is present only during physical exertion or after a long stay in an uncomfortable position. As bone tissue grows, pain becomes constant and bothers even at night.

Symptoms of spondylosis of the thoracic spine, which develops long enough, can imitate myositis, heart attack and angina pectoris. This is due to the fact that the largest number of nerve roots is located in this department - the radiation of pain can be in the left arm and in the sternum. The patient, forced to choose a comfortable position to reduce pain, slouches, lowering the shoulder and trying to pull the upper part of the body a little forward and down.

When diagnosed with spondylosis of the neck, the patient will complain of headaches, increased fatigue, inability to perform the simplest head movements. It is noteworthy that neither regular massage nor painkillers will alleviate the condition of a person.

Individually, doctors highlight the signs of deforming spondylosis of the lumbar spine. In addition to severe pain, there are always problems with walking - a person begins to limp, cannot walk quickly, let alone run.

Regardless of in which part of the spine the disease develops, a specific position with a slight inclination of the body forward brings significant relief to the patient. In principle, this is a characteristic feature of spondylosis, according to which doctors can make a preliminary diagnosis before receiving the results of the examination.

Treatment of spondylosis

Treatment of spondylosis of the lumbosacral spine, as with other localization of the pathology, consists in the following appointments:

  • medications from the category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesics;
  • massage;
  • therapeutic gymnastics.

But drug therapy is possible only if the disease was diagnosed at an early stage of development. First, medical treatment aimed at relieving the pain syndrome is carried out, after which you can proceed to gymnastics and massage. How to treat degenerative spondylosis? There is only one answer to this question - surgical intervention, during which the surgeon bites off the grown bone fragments with a special tool. Only after complete recovery from surgery can the rehabilitation process begin. And here physical therapy exercises will be useful - with spondylosis, they are selected individually, taking into account the patient's general state of health.

Cervical spondylosis at an early stage is treated by wearing a Schantz collar - this is a special physiotherapeutic device that improves blood circulation in this part of the spine and supplies the brain with oxygen. When such a disease is detected, it is necessary to be under the constant supervision of a doctor, because the brain is located next to the pathological focus. A stroke may develop in the event of a blood supply disruption.

If the clinic offers shock wave therapy sessions as part of the treatment of spondylosis, you need to be very attentive and careful. The best option is the consultation of several specialists. Such caution is associated with a high probability of developing severe complications after the procedure. Shock wave therapy will help only in the case of the cartilaginous structure of the vertebrae. Impact on ossified fragments can provoke their chipping and penetration of fragments into the spine.

If you have a history of osteochondrosis, you should visit a doctor and find out what cervical spondylosis is. You can sign up for a consultation on our website Dobrobut.com.
