Symptoms of acute tracheitis in adults and children

Tracheitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea. Symptoms of tracheitis appear against the background of a bacterial or viral infection. Signs of allergic tracheitis appear regardless of whether there is an infection.

Symptoms of tracheitis

There are acute and chronic forms of the disease. In the first case, it is indicated by a severe cough in the form of attacks. Each attack lasts several minutes and is accompanied by chest pain. At the same time, sputum is either completely absent or too little and it is poorly discharged. Some children with acute tracheitis have a characteristic wheezing breath, and the general body temperature may rise. The acute phrase of tracheitis lasts 3-4 days, then the cough becomes less intense, sputum appears and recovery gradually occurs.

The chronic disease lasts for years, with frequent and prolonged remissions, but an exacerbation manifested by a sudden coughing attack can begin even with a deep breath. Chronic tracheitis is characterized by the presence of sputum that can be easily expectorated.

Symptoms of acute tracheitis in adults are identical to those observed in tracheitis in children. Regardless of the patient's age, when the first signs of the disease appear, it is necessary to seek qualified medical care. It is necessary not only to clarify the diagnosis but also to differentiate tracheitis from other diseases of the respiratory system.

Treatment of tracheitis in children

During the examination, the doctor determines which medications will be needed. If tracheitis is caused by a bacterial infection, it is advisable to use antibiotics. Initially, a short course of therapy is prescribed (for 5 days), after which the treatment can be continued. Treatment of a child and an adult is practically the same. Antibiotics for tracheitis during pregnancy are contraindicated and can be prescribed only if the disease is more dangerous for the mother than the medication is for the fetus.

Medications for viral tracheitis are primarily antiviral drugs. They are prescribed individually in small doses. If the disease arose as a complication of another disease, the doctor should take into account how drug therapy was carried out earlier. The fact is that some antiviral drugs can develop addiction, and they will not have a proper therapeutic effect.

Treatment of tracheitis in children is carried out with the help of

  • hot water baths for hands or feet;
  • mustard on the back area between the shoulder blades, but avoiding the area of the heart projection
  • rubbing the chest (except for the heart area) with goose fat.

Any procedures (thermal, rubbing) are allowed only if the patient's body temperature is within the normal range.

Inhalation with a nebulizer for tracheitis will be an excellent solution. Classical steam procedures can be performed - clean hot water is used, the steam of which warms the throat and trachea, reducing the intensity of cough, making its attacks less frequent and facilitating the patient's breathing. However, inhalation with chlorophyllipte, anise oil, garlic or onion juice will help speed up the recovery process - 1 teaspoon of any component is added to 1 liter of water. Decoctions of medicinal herbs such as chamomile, sage, eucalyptus, or mint can also be used for this procedure. First, the broth itself is prepared - 1 teaspoon is poured into 200 ml of water, boiled for 5 minutes. Then the broth is filtered and added to the nebulizer.

How to cure chronic tracheitis:

  • take preventive measures to prevent infection with viral or bacterial agents;
  • at least 2 times a year, conduct a course of supportive therapy with the help of steam baths, inhalations and warming;
  • provide vitamin therapy, enrich the child's diet with vegetables and fruits.

It is impossible to achieve a complete recovery, but it is quite possible to put the disease into remission, which can last for years.

Many people are interested in how to treat tracheitis in a child aged 1-3 years, because it is difficult to carry out inhalation procedures. In this case, it is recommended to

  • add any of the above medicines to a pot of water, heat it slowly on the stove, and stay near the pot with the baby with the doors and windows closed;
  • use tea tree, mint or eucalyptus aroma oil for aromatherapy in the child's bedroom.
