"Cuckoo" procedure for sinusitis - features of its implementation
Inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (sinusitis) is often diagnosed at the initial stage of development. And in this case, the "cuckoo" procedure is an excellent choice among medical manipulations. Unfortunately, such washing of the nose with the creation of negative pressure in the cavities is not very popular. But otolaryngologists strongly recommend "cuckoo" for both adult patients and children with diagnosed sinusitis.
How the "cuckoo" procedure is performed for sinusitis
The above-mentioned procedure also has a second, so to speak, official name - washing the nasal cavity according to Proetz for sinusitis. It is carried out only in polyclinic or inpatient conditions with the use of various therapeutic solutions:
- Antibacterial drugs. They are prescribed only by a doctor. It is advisable to use antibiotics in the treatment of sinusitis in the late stages of the disease.
- Antiseptics. These include Miramistin and Furacilin. The drugs clean the nasal sinuses of purulent contents and destroy disease-causing bacteria.
- Vasoconstricting solutions. They are rarely used during the "cuckoo" procedure, only when the inflammatory process in the maxillary sinuses progresses rapidly and the patient needs to be given the opportunity to breathe.
How to make a "cuckoo" with sinusitis:
- The patient lies down on the couch and puts his head back. If the considered procedure must be performed on a child, then the child should lie on his side.
- Using an ordinary syringe, the prescribed medicinal solution is injected into one nostril.
- Simultaneously with the introduction of liquid from the other nostril, they begin to pump out (suck out) the contents of the sinus.
The "cuckoo" procedure for sinusitis is performed within 10 minutes. All this time, the patient must say "ku-ku". It is this feature of the washing procedure that gave it its "folk" name. After all manipulations, the patient is prohibited from performing any physical exercises. Within 30 minutes after the procedure, he should be under medical supervision.
As a rule, a full course of treatment of the inflammatory process in the maxillary sinuses consists of 6 procedures. The first can cause slight discomfort and cause certain pain sensations. But with each subsequent "cuckoo", the patient will feel better.
Complications after the "cuckoo" and contraindications to its implementation
The considered type of washing the maxillary sinuses has its own contraindications:
- diagnosed epilepsy (even in the case when a long remission and absence of attacks is noted);
- any mental disorders in history;
- age of the patient up to 5 years;
- disruption of the blood coagulation system.
"Cuckoo" belongs to safe procedures, but in some cases the following complications may occur:
- redness of the eyes;
- vomiting;
- intense burning in the nose;
- frequent sneezing;
- injury of the nasal mucosa.
Injuries and vomiting are the least common. The remaining complications are not a reason to cancel the procedure.
Treatment of sinusitis with the help of "cuckoo" helps to maximally clean the sinuses of the contents. The solution injected into the nose under pressure penetrates into all corners of the sinuses and literally washes away bacteria and viruses. But, despite the high efficiency, rinsing the nasal sinuses according to Proetz should not be the only treatment procedure in the framework of therapy. In parallel, the otolaryngologist prescribes systemic antibacterial and antiviral drugs, vitamin and mineral complexes.
The above-mentioned procedure is much more effective than the usual washing of the sinuses at home. Yes, a positive result will be achieved in both cases, but the "cuckoo" significantly alleviates the patient's condition after only 5 procedures.
