Treatment of various types of neuritis

Neuritis is a disease that affects peripheral nerves and leads to changes in their structure. Treatment of neuritis depends on where the pathology is localized and how severe it is.

Optic neuritis

It is more often diagnosed in young patients, characterized by characteristic symptoms:

  • pain in the organ of vision;
  • difficult movement of the eyeball;
  • a veil before the eyes;
  • colors are not perceived as bright;
  • objects look blurry.

Optic neuritis is treated with complex therapy. The doctor prescribes drugs capable of improving blood circulation in small vessels and the conduction of nerve fibers. You must take a course of vitamin therapy, adjust your diet and be under the supervision of a specialist. Often, the disease takes on a chronic form, then supportive therapy, which is carried out in courses at least twice a year, will be more appropriate.

Trigeminal neuritis

The cause of its development most often is hypothermia. Also, the disease can occur after a head injury, against the background of a severe course of the inflammatory process in the maxillary sinuses. Trigeminal neuritis has characteristic symptoms:

  • frontal folds on the side of the damaged nerve are absent;
  • the eye slit is significantly widened;
  • on one side, the lower lip shifts down.

The patient loses the ability to activate facial muscles, the face seems to become "stone". Against the background of all the listed symptoms, there is an acute unbearable pain. It can be permanent or appear periodically.

Treatment is carried out in a hospital, not only anti-inflammatory and painkillers are prescribed, but also physical procedures. The duration of therapy is variable, it can last for several weeks. After recovery, the patient continues to follow preventive measures and avoid hypothermia, injuries, and infectious diseases.

Neuritis of the peroneal nerve

With such a diagnosis, symptoms are observed from the side of the lower extremities:

  • the foot hangs down, which makes it impossible to stand even with support on the heel;
  • gait changes radically - pronounced limp appears;
  • sensitivity of the soft tissues of the leg from the impression side decreases.

The doctor prescribes therapy, but after the diagnosis is finally confirmed - neuritis must be differentiated from other problems of the musculoskeletal system. In addition to drug treatment, physical activity is of great importance. After the acute pain disappears and the inflammatory process subsides, the patient should perform physical therapy exercises designed for peroneal nerve neuritis. Often it is physical procedures that help put the disease into a state of long-term remission and restore the motor functions of the limb.

Radial neuritis

The causes of radial neuritis are hidden in injuries to the forearm or wrist. In this case, the patient develops a syndrome of a hanging hand or an entire arm, motor functions are impaired. At the beginning, the patient complains of problems with bending and extending the hand, the inability to function of the upper limb for a long time.

Treatment will be long-term, a course of massage, a complex of physical exercises must be prescribed - this helps to improve the functional capabilities of the hand.

Neuritis of the auditory nerve

Acute cochlear neuritis, manifested by hearing impairment, is most common among neuritis of the ENT field. The patient will complain of tinnitus regardless of the level of hearing, the sounds can be of different nature. When the pathology develops, a severe headache and earache are added. Painkillers may not alleviate the patient's condition.

The inflammatory process determines the symptoms of auditory neuritis:

  • filling in the ears, feeling of the presence of a foreign body in the ear;
  • itching in the area of the ear canal, sometimes unbearable;
  • hearing loss – at first partial, then without proper treatment it can be complete;
  • constant tinnitus.

Often, a nerve that transmits nerve impulses from the vestibular apparatus to the brain is involved in the pathological process. In this case, vestibular neuritis develops. It is accompanied by intense pain syndrome, dizziness and nausea, an unsteady gait appears.

A neurologist with an otolaryngologist deals with the treatment of neuritis of the auditory nerve. It will be necessary to carry out drug therapy, regularly monitor the dynamics of the development of the pathology. In the absence of positive results after 2-3 days of treatment, it is necessary to change tactics and adjust the appointment. The lack of competent therapy leads to complete deafness and the spread of the inflammatory process to brain tissue.

Neuritis of the nerves of the upper limbs

The disease most often affects the ulnar and brachial nerves. The symptoms with this localization of the pathology will be identical - these are:

  • problems with joint mobility;
  • severe pain in the entire upper limb;
  • impossibility to raise, lower, bend or unbend a limb, lift a load.

Massage for neuritis of the ulnar nerve is the main purpose after the medicinal suppression of the inflammatory process and the disappearance of acute symptoms. With brachial neuritis, gymnastics becomes the main factor in recovery, and the performance of gymnastic exercises should be extended even after the appearance of positive results. During the acute phase of the pathology, any load on the affected arm is prohibited. Doctors recommend immobilization of the upper limb in the shoulder joint.
