Chronic and acute urethritis - treatment of the disease in men, women and children

Treatment of urethritis in men and women

Urethritis is a pathology characterized by inflammation of the walls of the urinary tract. This disease is quite common and is more often diagnosed in men. Having the necessary information about the symptoms and how to treat urethritis in men, women and children, it is quite possible to avoid the development of complications and the transition from an acute form of pathology to a chronic one.

Types and symptoms of urethritis

Signs of the inflammatory process do not appear immediately after infection - a certain incubation period must pass. If the patient has nonspecific urethritis, the incubation period can last two months. When the disease proceeds in a non-specific form, the incubation period will be minimal - a few hours, a maximum of 2-3 days.

Acute urethritis, the treatment of which usually begins in the late stages, is most often asymptomatic - that is why it poses a danger to the patient's health: the infection is sexually transmitted and leads to serious complications.

General symptoms of urethritis

Most often, patients seek help from a urologist in the presence of the following symptoms:

  • itching and heartburn during urination;
  • periodic pains in the pubic region;
  • purulent secretions from the urinary tract;
  • the presence of blood in the urine.

In men, there is a violation of urination, difficulty in the outflow of urine up to an acute delay.

Chronic urethritis in men, the treatment of which is difficult and long, proceeds without symptoms, any manifestations of an inflammatory nature are periodic in nature. You can get more information about chronic urethritis on our website: Dobrobut.com.

Remote symptoms

  1. Gonorrheal urethritis. In women, the acute form of the disease will be manifested by pain and burning during urination, and the chronic form will be symptomless, diagnosis is possible only through a comprehensive examination. In men, gonorrheal urethritis in the acute form is characterized by itching and burning in the urinary canal, and in the chronic form by purulent discharge from the urethra, which is especially active after drinking alcohol or sexual intercourse.
  2. Trichomonas urethritis. It is distinguished by a long incubation period (about 10 days, but it can be as long as 5 days or 1-2 months). In women, it is manifested by itching and burning of the external genital organs, but in 30% of cases it has no symptoms and makes the treatment of urethritis in women late and difficult. Men complain of slight white/grey discharge, blood in the semen, pain and itching during urination.
  3. Candida urethritis. This is a fungal infection, the incubation period of which is 10-20 days. Symptoms in men and women are identical: pain, heartburn during urination, pink viscous discharge. How to treat candidal urethritis is determined by the doctor after examining the patient - men, for example, may develop fasting and balanoposthitis, which require longer and more aggressive therapy. In women, the treatment of urethritis of this type can be combined with the treatment of thrush (vaginal candidiasis).
  4. Chlamydial urethritis. The incubation period is 1-3 weeks, the symptoms are expressed less intensively - pain, itching and heartburn are present, but to a lesser extent. Chlamydial urethritis in women, the treatment of which may not be carried out (recovery occurs 2-3 weeks after the onset of the disease), is characterized by transparent or purulent discharge from the urinary tract. Men can also have such discharges, but they remain almost unnoticed due to their non-intense nature.
  5. Nongonococcal urethritis. The incubation period is two weeks on average, then the first signs of pathology appear: mucous secretions from the urinary tract, itching and heartburn in the area of the external genitalia, blood in the urine. Often, this type of urethritis is asymptomatic, so it is impossible to diagnose it in time - treatment begins late, when complications such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) in men or infertility in women have already developed.
  6. Bacterial urethritis during pregnancy. It is characterized by more frequent urination than usual, greenish discharge, itching and burning during urination. Dangerous for intrauterine development of the fetus.

Treatment of urethritis in men, women and children

Treatment of this inflammatory process includes the use of antibacterial drugs, which are selected by the doctor taking into account the general state of health of the patient and the type of pathogen. For the treatment of urethritis in men, the drug can be injected directly into the urinary canal - this speeds up recovery, women can also be prescribed tablets or injections. Fosfomycin is most often used for urethritis, but always in combination with amoxicillin antibiotics.

In order for the treatment of urethritis to be effective, antibacterial drugs must be taken strictly according to the schedule, without missing a single appointment!

Treatment of urethritis should be accompanied by adherence to a diet - it is necessary to limit the intake of spicy/fatty/acidic/salty food, observe the norms of liquid consumption.

How to treat urethritis in children

The complexity of the development of the disease in children's patients lies in the fact that most antibiotics (they are the basis of therapy) are contraindicated for use by children. How to treat urethritis in children should be determined by a doctor, even if the symptoms of the disease are obvious and the parents know the basic principles of therapy. Most often, children are prescribed immunomodulators, vitamin complexes, and physical procedures. Also, the inflammatory process in the walls of the urinary tract can "extinguish" the intake of herbal teas, which include lingonberry leaves, chamomile, and yarrow. But phytotherapy should not be a priority - it is a supplement to medical treatment.

Urethritis is an inflammatory process that requires qualified treatment. This is the only way to avoid the development of complications.
